Cádiz... during the day

I went to Cádiz for Carnaval earlier this year, but I never actually saw any of the city or the beach so I wanted to go back. I took a little day trip there during Feria to get a little break and just to relax on the beach. The weather forecast said cloudy, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to see the city. Cádiz is actually the oldest city in the Iberian Peninsula and possibly of all southwestern Europe! Very unbelievable. But... it was so nice and hot out that we (Jess, Franny, Jillian, Rachel, and Rachel) all decided that it was too beautiful to not lay out on the Caleta beach by the water. We first sat down and had a little coffee in the center of the city and walked around a little so I actually did see a bit, like the cathdral and the town hall. then we walked along the coast towards the beach and saw some of the cities most antique structures. We made our way to the beach, which was extremely empty since it is still before the busy season. It was a little windy at first, but then before I knew it, it was like 3000 degrees and every little breeze felt amazing. We at lunch at this little restaurant right on the beach and had an amazing meal. We all just ordered a bunch of dishes and then shared. Tuna, fresh olives, cheese, roasted red peppers and onions, and these tiny little fried tortillas with shrimp and vegetables (tortillitas de camarones). It is so nice to sometimes just get out of the house from Maria and Antonio and actually decide what I eat. I will definitely not miss spanish fried food when I go home. If a meal consists of noodle soup, bread, and a spanish tortilla...that is just way too many carbs. Sorrry Maria and Antonio... i'm not going to miss your bocadillos and your cooking. (except for paella and chickpea soup). Oh yeah... I like beans now... what's up with that?

  1. We certainly can accommodate dishes with beans once you are back. Check out Curt's chili!
