A couple of weekends ago, I was lucky enough to experience Cádiz Carnival, the most famous (wild and crazy) carnival in all of Spain. I found the perfect pirate costume for it, inexpensive and more covering than most. (Here is a picture of me with Antonio and Maria, my host family). We left Sevilla at around 9 with an enormous group that filled 12 buses. Every bus had its own costume contest with prizes and I wasn’t even expecting it, but I won 1st place on our bus! What a good way to start the night :) So Cádiz is a little over an hour away from Sevilla, but since there was so much traffic it ended up taking closer to 2 hours to actually get to our final drop off point in the city. It was insane to see so many huge crowds of people in the streets, all in crazy costumes drinking in the streets and having a good time. Our guide on the bus told us that over half a million people come to Cádiz for Carnaval, a city built for only 30,000! As with everything, there were also the bad things you had to watch out for… pick pocketers, piss everywhere in the streets, and broken glass. I made it to the end of the night in one piece, with all of my belongings, the friends I came with, and memories of the craziest street party I have ever been too. The bus back home ended up leaving at 4 in the morning and I got home around 6. (after hounding down a taxi, which was 100 times harder than it should have been at that hour). It definitely was a fun and interesting experience, but I’m certain that once is more than enough! Ha.

Carnaval de Cádiz...as a pirate!
