So this whole past week the weather has still been pretty bad… cold and rainy. But I’m not letting the bad weather stop me from exploring Sevilla and am definitely keeping myself busy out of class. This past weekend I did a little shopping with my new friends Jessica, Franny, and Jillian, went to my first Spanish “cine” and visited the most famous and beautiful neighborhood in Sevilla, Santa Cruz. I saw “La Mujer de Anarquista,” a movie I had to see for class about a Spanish family during WWII. We had to walk up these steps to get to the theater and then there was this heavy curtain that you had to walk through. When you walked through it you were right at the front of the theater and had to duck a little bc the ceiling was really low… it was pretty awkward at first but since Franny and I were the only ones, luckily no one noticed our awkwardness.
Saturday night we found this really cute pub called Madigan’s right by the river and had a few drinks. Since it was raining and we didn’t want to walk far, we went right down the street to this club called Boss. The bouncers were huge jerks and told us we couldn’t get in because we needed an invitation but then they finally let us in. I guess there was a wedding reception there because at some point I remember seeing a woman in a wedding dress in the middle of the dance floor… clearly borracha (drunk). It was pretty entertaining. Before I knew it, it was 5 in the morning and I decided that it was probably a good idea to find Jillian and go home.
All of Sunday it rained, but I ended up going to this museum in Santa Cruz called La Hospital de los Venerables. It was really hard to find because none of the streets of the Santa Cruz neighborhood are labeled on my map. The streets are literally so small that on half the streets you can’t even walk side by side to a person. Especially not with an umbrella. But I want to go back and take pictures when it is nicer… definitely my favorite part of Sevilla so far. But the museum was pretty interesting. It was filled with different painting, sculptures, books, and artifacts that related to Andalucian, especially Sevillan, history.
So this is the 2nd week of my intensive language course at the CIEE center… hopefully it will go just as fast as the 1st because I really want it to be over so I can start my real classes. Right now I am also planning some weekend trips to places for the rest of the semester, which I’m really excited about. I just booked a 3-day trip to Lagos, Portugal today for April; the beaches look amazing! I can’t wait to go… but I’m really glad I have to because I don’t want this semester to fly by as fast as I think it’s going to.
